Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is suing Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) for the “App Store” trademark. Apple filed a complaint on March 18 in a northern California federal court. Apple claims unfair competition and trademark infringement along with unspecified damages. They also asked for a judge’s order to prevent Amazon.com from using the “App Store” name.

“Amazon has begun improperly using Apple’s App Store mark in connection with Amazon’s mobile-software developer program,” said Apple in a complaint. Apple contacted Amazon three times to demand not using the App Store name.

Apple applied for a trademark on the term “App Store.” The United States Patent and Trademark Office approved the application said Apple. Microsoft attempted to oppose the registration claiming that the term was too generic to trademark.
