Samsung Ventures is investing $15 million into MasterImage 3D, a company that makes stereoscopic 3D display technology for mobile devices. It is likely that Samsung will use MasterImage’s 3D technology for their own smartphones and mobile devices eventually.

MasterImage develops 3D technology for screens that do not require 3D glasses, a technology that is known as auto-stereoscopic. MasterImage 3D did a demo at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. And they shipped a lot of 3D displays to customers in Japan.

“Samsung’s investment supports our strong belief that we’ve just begun to realize the impact 3D will have on consumers,” said MasterImage 3D CEO Younghoon Lee. MasterImage 3D has over 100 employees and raised $30 million across two rounds of funding.
