Menu Aggregator Services Just-Eat Raises $48 Million


Just-Eat is a local online takeaway menu aggregator service that has raised $48 million in a second round of funding. The company plans to use the funding to expand internationally. Just-Eat says they are expecting to generate over $500 million in revenue for partner restaurants in 2011. Just-Eat is available across 10 countries and has 15,000 restaurants listed. Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, and Redpoint provided this round of investment. Just-Eat formed in Denmark in 2001 and moved to London in 2008. The company raised $17.9 million in 2009. Australian Girl Cancels Sweet 16 Party After 200,000 People Confirm On Facebook


A teenager in Australia will not be having a Sweet 16 party at her house like she was planning. Apparently her Facebook invitation went out of control. About 200,000 joined and confirmed as “attending” within 24 hours. The girl, known as “Jess,” informed the police about the party. The Daily Telegraph suspects that the hacker group Anonymous was behind the RSVPs.

Blogger John Hoff Ordered By Jury To Pay $60,000 To Fired Univ. of Minnesota Employee


John (Johnny Northside) Hoff was telling the truth when he said that University of Minnesota ex-community leader Jerry Moore was linked to a high profile mortgage fraud. The Hennepin County jury decided that Hoff would still have to pay Moore $60,000 in damages any way.

Kredits is a microfinance technology solutions company that has raised $4.5 million in funding from Sophia ApS, a Danish investments company. Kredits plans on using the funding to deliver new microfinance technology and expand their global client base.

LivingSocial In Talks To Raise $500 Million


In December, LivingSocial raised $183 million from Amazon.com and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Now the company is looking to raise an additional $500 million according to The Wall Street Journal. LivingSocial would use the funding to keep expanding and stay competitive with Groupon.

NBA Referee Suing AP and Sports Writer Jon Krawczynski Over Defamation Tweet


NBA referee Bill Spooner is suing the Associated Press and sports writer John Krawczynski over defamation that was written in a tweet. Spooner has worked as a referee for 22 years and on January 24th, Krawczynski wrote a tweet that stated the referee promised a make-up call to Minnesota Timberwolves coach Kurt Ramis.

How Alexander Welch Was Arrested For Using An App


Alexander Welch is a 20 year old kid that lives in Boise, Idaho. He downloaded an application on his smartphone that emulates the police blue and red light flashes. He used this app to pull a car over as a prank, not knowing whether it would work. The car pulled over and Welch drove away from the scene.

Facebook Taking On Groupon By Launching Local Deals Subscription Service


Groupon may have over 50 million e-mail subscribers, but Facebook has over 500 million users and they plan to starting making even more money from them. Facebook has special posts at the top of the News Feed homepage urging people to subscribe to updates about their Deals location based check-in coupon services. Newell Rubbermaid Acquires Reading Education Software Company Headsprout


Headsprout is a reading education software service that launched about 12 years ago. Headsprout has been acquired by DYMO/Mimio, a Newell Rubbermaid company. The financial details of the acquisition were undisclosed. Headsprout President and CEO Dave Anderson will remain as the head of the company after the acquisition. Facebook Legal Team Stops Mark Zuckerberg Action Figures From Being Made


The Mark Zuckerberg action figure is being blocked by Facebook’s legal team. The action figure was being made by M.I.C. (Made in China). M.I.C. apologized and said that they will comply with the legal block. M.I.C. recently created a Steve Jobs action figure, which was also blocked over trademark infringement.
