Ninety two year old Jean Stuetzle of Mountain View, California was diagnosed with lung cancer. However doctors had determined that chemotherapy or surgery were risky options for her age. Radiation oncologist Robert Sinha at the El Camino Hospital in Silicon Valley informed Stuetzle about technology called CyberKnife. The Michigan Supreme Court has ruled in favor of rap artist Dr. Dre in a case that involves whether police have the right to privacy when on duty. In a DVD produced of Eminem and Dr. Dre’s tour concert, police officers were shown threatening to shut it down. The police officers were warnings the artists that if they showed a sexually explicit video on the tour, they would be forced to shut it down. The lawsuit was filed by Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown. The court dismissed the lawsuit in a 6-1 ruling. This means that it is legal in the state of Michigan to record officers when on duty. Inkling is a digital textbook startup company that has raised a multi-million dollar round of funding from McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Sequoia Capital, Felicis Ventures, Kapor Capital, and Sherpalo Ventures. Inkling had previously raised an undisclosed Series A round of funding in August 2010. Inkling’s technology has the ability to deliver interactive textbooks. Users can collaborate, add multimedia, and chat with each other within the specific content. Color.com is a service that came out of nowhere this week and shocked the press. The company has developed an application for smartphones that automatically lets you share photos with the people around you. Essentially they are calling it photo sharing with an “implied social network.”
Social media reading application company Flipboard is raising funding that would give them a $200 million valuation according to sources with AllThingsD. The valuation is subject to change. Flipboard was co-founded by Mike McCue and former Apple iPhone engineer Evan Doll. When Flipboard launched in January, they had raised $10.5 million in VC funding from Kleiner Perkins, Index Centures, Jack Dorsey, Dustin Moskovitz, Ron Conway, Ashton Kutcher, and Peter Chernin. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has removed an application from the App Store that was created by religious organization Exodus International. The app acted as a too to “cure gays.” The Exodus International church said that the app would have homosexual people “grow into heterosexuality.” About 145,000 people have signed an online petition demanding for the app to be removed.
