Justice Department Approves Of Google’s $700 Million ITA Software Acquisition

The Department of Justice has cleared Google’s $700 million acquisition of ITA Software. However Google must comply to a proposed settlement. Google will have to develop and license travel software, fund software research in the industry, and establish internal firewall procedures. Google will also have to license ITA’s airfare search software on commercially reasonable terms.

Google will have to further develop ITA’s next generation InstaSearch product for travel websites. The Justice Department also said that Google is prohibited from entering airline agreements that restrict an airlines’ right to share seat and booking class information with Google’s own competitors. If Google did not agree to the terms, they would face an antitrust lawsuit.
