American Airlines Files Lawsuit Against Travelport LP and Orbitz
American Airlines has filed a lawsuit against a couple of the companies that sells their tickets. American Airlines is suing Travelport LP and Orbitz Worldwide over damages and anticompetitive practices. American Airlines believes that Orbitz and Travelport charges fees that are too high. American Airlines is also seeking a punitive award.
Orbitz said that American Airlines’ claims are baseless. Orbitz said the lawsuit “was the latest in a series of tactics to force Orbitz to adopt an airline ticket distribution model that limits consumer choice and inhibits competition.” American Airlines parent company AMR Corporation (NYSE:AMR) recently made an agreement with Expedia over ticket sales. Travelport is Orbitz’s largest stakeholder.
