Amazon.com Announces Library Lending For Kindle Books

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced a new feature today called Kindle Library Lending. This feature allows Kindle customers to borrow books from over 11,000 libraries in the U.S. The Kindle Lending Library will be made available for all of the Kindle generations.

“We’re excited that millions of Kindle customers will be able to borrow Kindle books from their local libraries,” stated Amazon Kindle Director Jay Marine. “Customers tell us they love Kindle for its Pearl e-ink display that is easy to read even in bright sunlight, up to a month of battery life, and Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights and last page read between their Kindle and free Kindle apps.”

This feature will also be made available through the free Kindle app on Android, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone. If a Kindle book is checked out and that book is purchased, then all of the annotations and bookmarks will be preserved on the purchased book.

Amazon.com made this feature possible through a partnership with OverDrive, a digital content solutions company. The Kindle Library Lending feature will be available later this year.
