Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is being fined after a Texas jury made a judgment against the search giant. Google is being found guilty of infringing on a patent that is related to the Linux kernel, requiring them to pay $5 million. The Linux kernel is being used on Google’s server platforms and Android operating system. The lawsuit filed against Google was from a small company called Bedrock Computer Technologies. Bedrock has sued Yahoo!, PayPal, AOL, Match.com, Amazon, and MySpace in the past. [BBC]

Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ:RIMM) has acquired the scheduling application company Tungle. The entire team will be joining Tungle after the acquisition. Tungle has a team of 23 people based in Montreal, Quebec with an R&D office in Waterloo, Ontario. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) announced this morning that they plan to align their workforce and will be consolidating some operations. As a result, there will be a massive layoff. Nokia will be cutting about 4,000 employees by the end of 2012. Most of these job cuts will take place in Finland, Denmark, and the U.K. Nokia will also be transferring all of their Symbian software jobs and 3,000 employees to Accenture Plc (NYSE:ACN).

High speed Internet company CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL) has acquired cloud computing company SAVVIS, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVVS) for $2.5 billion. This acquisition deal values Savvis at $40 per share, which is an 11% premium on the company’s stock price as of yesterday.
