SitterCity is a Chicago based company that has raised $22.6 million in funding from New World Ventures, Baird Venture Partners, Apex Venture Partners, I2A, and Point Judith Capital. Now SitterCity has a total of $30 million in funding. SitterCity is a service that connects families with child car, pet care, elderly care, and tutoring services.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been criticized in the media for allegedly collecting location data from 3G-based devices. The first question that Apple answered was “Why is Apple tracking the location of my iPhone?”

Viddy is a mobile video sharing start-up company that has raised $1.6 million in a first round of funding. Viddy had launched a mobile video creation and sharing application for the iPhone. This round of funding was provided by Battery Ventures, Bessemer Ventures, Qualcomm, Jarl Mohn, and early YouTube employees. Sparkfly is a mobile marketing technology company based in Atlanta, Georgia that has raised $2.5 million in funding. Sparkfly has a mobile marketing platform called SparkQuest that connects consumer deals to the merchant point-of-sale. Sparkfly’s technology allows consumers to get rewards at the merchant venues that they visit the most. SparkQuest has quest-like games built in to the platform. Milk Inc. is a new company that was co-founded by Kevin Rose. Rose is the founder of Digg and co-founder of Revision3. Milk is essentially a company where several developers brainstorm technology and mobile ideas and works away at building them. If there isn’t any sudden traction, then the project gets shut down. Milk has raised $1.5 million in angel funding from well known investors. Investors include Mike Maples, Jr. (Floodgate), David Sze (Greylock Partners), Ron Conway, Dave Morin, Philip Rosedale, Evan Williams, Joshua Schachter, Ashton Kutcher, Michael Arrington, Philip Kaplan, Chris Sacca, Tony Hsieh, Gary Vaynerchuk, and several others. Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) has made an official announcement about the status of the PlayStation Network being down. A hacker penetrated the system and the personal information of users have been exploited. Sony revealed that between April 17 and April 19, there was an unauthorized intrusion on the PlayStation Network. As a result, Sony temporarily turned off the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. They are also working with a security firm to conduct a full investigation into what happened. They also started to enhance security to their network infrastructure by rebuilding their whole system.

VMware, Inc. (NYSE:VMW) is acquiring SlideRocket, a presentation software company that has 300,000 users. SlideRocket has 20,000 customers and collaboration tools for multiple authors to use. SlideRocket will complement VMware’s acquisition of e-mail suite company Zimbra.

Backyard launched this past December and was backed with $150,000 in seed funding from 500 Startups, Jason Calacanis, and Eric Schmidt’s Tomorrow Ventures. PixelFish, a local video marketing solutions company, has acquired Backyard. Backyard is a local business guide that is available on the web and on mobile devices. PixelFish has no plans of shutting down Backyard as a result of the acquisition.
