IAC/InterActiveCorp (NASDAQ:IACI) has reported a first quarter profit of $18.1 million this quarter. They recently renewed a contract with Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) that estimated to be worth $5.5 billion over 5 years. Google provides IAC with search products and advertising services.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has had their best first quarter earnings in 13 years with a profit of $2.6 billion being reported. These results beat the expectations of Wall Street as FactSet was predicting $2.1 billion in earnings. Ford’s revenues had increased 18% to $33.1 billion. Ford was profitable in all regions and saw an especially strong growth in Asia.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the apartment Wes DeSoto, a member of the Screen Actors Guild. THe FBI believes that he was the first one to upload the movies The King’s Speech and Black Swan to The Pirate Bay in January. The FBI is also looking into whether DeSoto is part of The Pirate Bay pre-release movie-uploading group that is known as TiMPE.

At the end of March, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) filed a lawsuit against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). Amazon.com’s mobile application is called Amazon.com Appstore and Apple’s mobile application store is called “App Store.” Apple filed the complaint against Amazon.com on March 18. Amazon said that the phrase “app store” is generic and nothing something that Apple should have for exclusive use.

ValueClick, Inc. (NASDAQ:VCLK) has acquired online marketing company Greystripe for $70 million. Greystripe provides ads within video games. Greystripe said that their video game advertising network reaches over 30 million users. Greystripe was founded in 2005 and they have raised over $18 million in venture capital funding from Peacock Equity, Incubic Venture Fund, Steamboat Ventures, and Monitor Ventures. Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) chief financial officer Jeff Epstein has stepped down from the company. Oracle co-president Safra Catz will fill in for Epstein, who previously reported to Catz directly. This is the second time that Catz will be acting as the CFO as she had that position between November 2005 and September 2008. “Safra already has the long-standing confidence of our employees, our board and our shareholders,” stated Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. “There is no more logical choice for CFO.” [AllThingsD]

Sony Corporation has temporarily shut down the PlayStation Network, a service that serves as a pass for downloading games, movies, TV shows, new games, add-ons, and videos. Recently some hackers got into the PlayStation Network and user information has been compromised. Sony said that they are taking the Network down for an indefinite amount of time.

The Last Typewriter Will Be Sold This Year

I remember back in 1997, my older brother was applying to a few universities using a typewriter. The electromechanical device he used seemed intriguing, but looked like it was such a nuisance. After all the typewriter has been around for 124 years since being invented in 1873 and there were far advanced technologies that existed for filling out college applications. It turns out that the typewriter will officially be phased out this year. It feels like an end of an era.
