How Osama Bin Laden Was Able To Read and Reply To E-Mails

Osama Bin Laden did not have Internet access at his hideout compound but he did have computers and a courier. Having these resources, Osama was able to send e-mails back-and-forth to his al-Qaeda network. When the U.S. government seized computers, flash disks, etc. from Bin Laden’s compound, thousands of messages and e-mail addresses was revealed.

Bin Laden would type up e-mails on a word processor without an Internet connection, then give it to his courier on a thumb drive. The courier would take the data to an Internet cafe and e-mail out the information. Then the courier would bring the previous responses back to Bin Laden on the thumb drive.

The Navy Seals seized 100 flash memory drives after they had killed Osama Bin Laden. The amount of electronic documents seized from Bin Laden’s compound is enormouse so the government hired Arabic speakers to translate the data.
