Apple Building A Data Center In Silicon Valley
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is building a new data center in Silicon Valley that is being housed by a third-party company. This will be smaller than the facility Apple owns in North Carolina. This new data center will give Apple additional IT capacity as Apple is developing new cloud computing services.
The facility will be based in Santa Clara, California by DuPont Fabros Technology. Apple signed a seven-year lease for 2.28 megawatts of critical power load in their new data center. The lease is scheduled to start in the third quarter (July to September) when the building opens.
This lease is Apple’s first investment in wholesale data center space. The data center is going to be built into two phases. When the building is done, it will be about 360,000 square feet.@amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
