General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) started construction on their first electric motor plant at the GM Baltimore Operations Complex. The plant is expected to open in 2013. The complex will produce a two-mode hybrid and Heavy Duty transmissions. This new factory will employ about 190 people. The plant is receiving a $129 million investment from GM, $105 million from the Department of Energy, and $10.5 million from the local country and state governments. The factory will have a 1.23 megawatt solar array that provides 9% of its annual energy. [Edmunds]

The Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone helped the U.S. government spy on Osama Bin Laden’s compound from the skies without being noticed. The RQ-170 operated quietly and provided imagery to the U.S. government. The RQ-170 did some digital eavesdropping as the mission was being planned and provided a live feed for President Obama when it was being executed. [Danger Room]

The Motorola Droid X2 smartphone is going to be on sale this Thursday for $200 through Verizon Wireless online. The Droid X2 won’t be available in retail stores until May 26th according to Motorola spokeswoman Kira Golin.
The X2 is replacing the original Droid X that launched in July.

Social gaming company Zynga is acquiring DNA Games. This is Zynga’s 14th acquisition since the last year. Zynga is interested in both the talent and the company. DNA Games developed several hit social games such as Casino City, Slot City, and Bar World. DNA reaches about 2.4 million monthly active users on Facebook. Casino City has about 1.5 million monthly active users, Slot City has about 438,000 actives, and Bar World has about 382,000 actives.

RBC Capital Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky is reporting that Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ:RIMM) sold about 250,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets thus far. Abramsky and his staff is reporting these numbers based on channel checks. If these numbers are correct, then the PlayBook has outsold the Motorola Xoom. Abramsky believes that RIM will be able to move about 500,000 PlayBook devices in the first quarter and about 2 million units this year. [BGR]

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is unlikely going to release an LTE-enabled iPhone due in 2012. According to DigiTimes sources

Apple is likely to delay the launch of its LTE-enabled iPhones to 2012, said the sources, noting that the industry had also long been skeptical about the launch of LTE iPhones in 2011 as the implementation of LTE networks has not yet matured.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is building a new data center in Silicon Valley that is being housed by a third-party company. This will be smaller than the facility Apple owns in North Carolina. This new data center will give Apple additional IT capacity as Apple is developing new cloud computing services.

San Francisco based Internet ticketing company Eventbrite has raised $50 million in Series E funding. This round of funding was led by Tiger Global. Eventbrite has raised a total of $79.5 million in funding thus far.
