If you have a smartphone that supports UMA and WiFI on T-Mobile USA, you can now make free phone calls. Calls made over WiFi used to count towards your minute plan, but that is no longer the case.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) CEO Leo Apotheker has warned exeutives in an internal memo that “another tough quarter” is coming and he asked them to watch every penny. HP plans on reporting their results before market hours today. HP has sharply lowered expectations after sales trimmed in March. HP has to stay competitive with Cisco and Oracle in the cloud computing sector. [Reuters]

The PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been restored after a major hack attack led to personal data being compromised. Sony took down the network at the end of April to upgrade their security. As an apology, Sony is offering two PS3 or 2 PSP games for free. Below is an excerpt from the PlayStation blog:

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is rumored to be building dual- and quad-core tablets in 2011. The dual- is code-named “Coyote” and the quad- is code-named “Hollywood.” Coyote is rumored to be biult on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform while quad would be based on the NVIDIA T30 “Kal-El.” [BGR]

Lior and Vardit Adler has practically guaranteed a traumatic childhood for their recently born baby. They have named their baby “Like” after the Facebook button that indicates you approve of websites, videos, images, etc. “I wanted something unique. At first I was looking at Chinese names, and considered the name ‘Qing Yu Lang.’ But in the end, my wife responded to ‘Like,’” stated Lior. Lior and Vardit’s other kids have unusual names too: Dvash and Pie. [Social Times]

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) has acquired Pliant Technology for $327 million in cash and equity based incentives. Pliant is a developed of solid state drives (SSD). “Flash memory is making significant inroads into the enterprise by dramatically increasing application performance and reducing power consumption,” stated SanDisk president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. “We believe that the combination of Pliant’s innovative technology and enterprise-level system expertise with SanDisk’s high-quality, large-scale MLC memory production is a winning value proposition for customers. Our advanced flash technology roadmap and flash management capability will complement Pliant’s strengths and allow us to lead the way in reliability and performance in the Enterprise SSD market.”

Tencent Holdings Ltd (HKG:0700) and Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) have invested $125.6 million into online Chinese travel service website eLong.com. Tencent put in $84.4 million for a 16% stake and Expedia put in $41.2 million to increase their stake to 56%.

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has announced that they are going to invest $2 billion in plant improvements. This is expected to save or add 4,000 jobs in the United States. GM will be putting $109 million in Flint and Bay City, Michigan operations for supporting engine production in future fuel-efficient cars.
