Flip video camera inventor Jonathan Kaplan saw his product get killed off by Cisco Systems after acquiring the company. Now he is working on a totally unrelated business. Kaplan has started a business called The Melt.

The Melt allows you to buy a grilled cheese sandwich through smartphone. You will be sent a QR code to swipe in the store when you are ready to pick it up. The sandwiches will be ready within 60 seconds. Sandwiches will sell for $5 or $8 with soup.

Sequoia Capital has invested in Kaplan’s new grilled cheese business. He is planning on starting over 500 Melt locations in the next 4 years. Each store will cost roughly between $500,000 and $1 million.
