Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is close to signing major deals with LG Display and Samsung Electronics. Apple wants advanced screens for the next version of the iPad. It appears that Apple wants to lower their dependence on Samsung because of a patent infringement lawsuit filed that they filed against them.
Apple has been testing Samsung and LG LCD monitors at one of their labs in China. “Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 will feature an improved display to support quad extended graphics (QXGA), a display resolution of 2048×1536 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio to provide full high definition (HD) viewing experience,” according to a source with Korea Times. “Apple has traditionally preferred to use the same providers of the same parts for the same device, even as they evolve to different versions. I don’t see any fundamental change to that approach.”
