PacketVideo has filed a patent infringement suit against Spotify for a 1995 patent on a “device for the distribution of music information in digital form.” According to TechDirt, more than a decade ago PacketVideo was “one of the hottest startups on the planet.” The company only bought the patent a few years ago, and the language of the patent is so broad that it likely covers far more than just Spotify’s services.
