Google Shopper For iPhone Now Shows Offers Near-By

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has a major interest in competing directly with Groupon. After Groupon refused Google’s $6 billion offer, Google realized that they cannot just buy their way into the local deals market. Google now has a new feature in the Google Shopper app [iTunes link] where mobile users can find local deals.

The Google Shopper app for the iPhone used to be focused just on comparison shopping. Now nearby offers are shown in a list of map format. The Google Shopper app has an “Offers” tab in between the “Shop” and “My Offers” tab.

“The Offers tab displays a list, or map view, of nearby offers which businesses have submitted through Google Places,” stated Google Shopper Product Manager Richard Hung. “If Google Offers are available in your city, you’ll be able to view and redeem your purchased offers on the My Offers tab.”
