The government in Kunming, China has stepped in to have fake Apple stores shut down. The stores were not shut down because of piracy or copyright concern, but because the stores did not have an official business permit. About five fake Apple stores were opened that sold Apple products without authorization from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). The fake Apple store was discovered by an American blogger.

“Media should not misunderstand the situation and jump to conclusions. Some overseas media has made it appear the stores sold fake Apple products,” stated the Kunming government business bureau spokesman Chang Puyun. “China has taken great steps to enforce intellectual property rights and the stores weren’t selling fake products.”

According to the U.S. ITC, piracy in China costed U.S. businesses $48 billion and 2.1 million jobs in 2009. Apparently all five of the unauthorized Apple stores were selling genuine Apple products that were bought from authorized resellers. Apple has four genuine stores across China.

The social network was founded by Mailet Lopez, Robert Boyle and Anthony Del Monte. TechCrunch reports that the site was created out of cancer survivor Lopez’s desire to create a blog of the same name, which then grew into the community network. The site uses mutual following like Facebook but with circles-like sorting like Google+, and allows users to search by categories like type of cancer or year diagnosed.
