Twitter is finally rolling out its new promoted tweets system, which places companies’ tweets at the top of users’ twitter timelines. The tweets only appear if a user follows a company that is utilizing the promoted tweets system, and will be clearly marked as ads. Twitter’s explanation to advertisers says that “the Promoted Tweet scrolls down the follower’s timeline as new Tweets appear” and that “advertisers pay only when a user engages.” AllThingsD reports that there will be a limited number of promoted tweets displayed to users.

PacketVideo has filed a patent infringement suit against Spotify for a 1995 patent on a “device for the distribution of music information in digital form.” According to TechDirt, more than a decade ago PacketVideo was “one of the hottest startups on the planet.” The company only bought the patent a few years ago, and the language of the patent is so broad that it likely covers far more than just Spotify’s services.

Customer-targeting service Crowdtap has raised $7 million in funding to improve its engineering and sales teams. The investors include Foundry Group, GSA Venture Partners and Mr. Youth. The latter previously invested $3 million in Crowdtap as seed funding. The service offers brands more information about their customers, and already has 150,000 clients, including Old Navy, Pinkberry and Bing. [TechCrunch]

Amazon now has deals with CBS and NBC for streaming video content. With last week’s deal with CBS and this week’s deal with NBC, Amazon now offers 7,000 tv programs and 2,000 films. Mashable reports that Amazon also has a stake in UK internet-tv platform YouView.

Alternative energy company SolarCity is now offering home installation of ClipperCreek EV chargers for electric car drivers. Engadget reports that the charger works with most plug-in vehicles and can charge a car five times faster than a 120V plug. The company also says that the charger in combination with a solar panel can cut drivers’ charging costs in half.

Facebook has created a guide to help businesses create their own Facebook pages. GigaOM reports that the guide comes complete with info about business profiles, help with ads and hints on how to interact with customer feedback through the social network. If Facebook’s much larger userbase didn’t convince businesses to choose Facebook over Google+, this move will. Google+ still doesn’t allow business pages and now Facebook is making every effort to cater to businesses’ social networking needs.
