Redbox Hits 1.5 Billion Rentals

Redbox has officially announced that they have seen about 1.5 billion DVD and Blu-ray disc rentals thus far. Redbox launched in 2004 and also rented out over 4 million video games.

Redbox is now rolling out game rentals to 5,000 more kiosks starting today. Now about 27,000 Redbox kiosks will have video game rentals available. Rebox offers games for the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PlyStation 3. Redbox charges $2 per day for game rentals and $1 per day for DVDs/Blu-ray titles.

Redbox parent company Coinstar announced Redbox’s revenue was $364 million, which is up about 34% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
