Microsoft Receives More Money From HTC Phones Than Windows Phone Devices

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has made three times as much money on HTC phones running Android than their own Windows Phone handsets in the second quarter of this year. Asymco analyst Horace Dediu wrote a tweet that Microsoft would have made $21 million in revenue on the 1.4 million units that were shipped in Q2.

Microsoft supposedly makes $15 in software licensing per phone sold. This would have generated $60 million in revenue from HTC on the $5 per unit Microsoft gets as part of their patent settlement. HTC shipped 12.1 million units last quarter, mostly being Android.
