Egyptian Activist Charged with Inciting Violence via Tweet

Egyptian activist Asmaa Mahfouz has been charged with inciting violence, disturbing public peace, spreading false news and defaming the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The charges are for a post she made on Twitter that read (translated from Arabic), “If the judiciary doesn’t grant us our rights, don’t be angry if militant groups carry out a series of assassinations since there is neither law nor justice.” TheNextWeb reports that she was released on bail (of 20,000 EGP, over $3,000), and it is rumored that the money was donated by an anonymous businessman.
