iRobot has received a $21 million order from the U.S. Navy to create 100 bomb disposal robots. iRobot’s The Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS) MK 1 MOD 1 robot has worked in combat and can successfully dispose of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) remain one of the biggest threats to our forces overseas . iRobot’s unmanned ground vehicles save lives every day by providing our troops with the ability to identify and dispose of IEDs from a safe standoff distance. We are pleased that the Navy is continuing its investment in this technology,” stated Robert Moses, the president of iRobot’s Government and Industrial Robots division.
