Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen has put Allan Island up for sale. The island is near Anacortes, Washington. The island is named after a Navy War hero. Allen bought the island in the early 90′s and this is his second attempt at selling it off. He put the island up for sale at a price of $13.5 million, which is down about $11 million since he tried selling it in 2005. The island is 292 acres of forest and beach land. Samsung has announced LTE versions of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9 ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin. The LTE versions of the S II and the Tab 8.9 will have faster wireless data transfer capabilities with downloads speeds that are as fast as 100 Mbps. The S II LTE will have a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen and an 8 megapixel camera. The Tab 8.9 LTE is 8.6mm thin and weighs only 455 grams. The tablet and the phone have a 1.5GHz dual core processor. Taboola is a video recommendation widgets service that has raised $9 million in Series B funding. This round of funding was led by Crescent Point and Evergreen VC. Taboola has raised a total of $15 million thus far.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has teamed up with LG Electronics to develop electric cars that have capabilities that are greater than the Chevy Volt. LG subsidiary LG Chem supplies the lithium ion batteries that powers the Chevy Volt and other GM electric prototype cars. LG will now provide key components that is related to the architecture and structure.
The Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Mail service has hit 100 million users. The company also hit 500,000 Facebook fans. Yahoo! recently made some layout changes for its Mail service. Yahoo! currently receives 5,000 feedback messages per day that the company uses to create changes in the user interface. For example, the company took a message about making the toolbar appear at the bottom of long messages seriously.
