Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) acquired Slide about a year ago for $182 million. Now Slide is being shut down so Slide founder Max Levchin is leaving Google.
Research In Motion has launched a BBM Music application. BBM Music will be available later this year for a monthly cost of $4.99 USD plus tax. You can sign up for the service at www.blackberry.com/bbmmusic. BBM Music is a social music service that is connected directly to the BBM messenger service. BlackBerry users will be able to share music with their BBM Music friends.
Bleacher Report is a sports website that has raised $22 million in a round led by Oak Investment Partners. Crosslink Capital and Hillsven Capital participated in this round. Oak Investment Partners plans on helping Bleacher Report expand to other verticals where content creation and publishing is encouraged by social engagement.
Brightcove is an online video infrastructure company that has filed for a $50 million IPO. It is unknown how many shares they plan on selling as part of the deal. The underwriters in this IPO includes Morgan Stanley, Stifel Nicolas, RBC Capital, Pacific Crest and Raymond James.
If you are a bicycling enthusiast, you may have had an experience with flat tires. Using a hand pump to fix your tire can be frustrating. Often times bikes lose pressure through sidewalls, which requires routine hand pumping. A San Francisco start-up called PumpTire has created a way for the tires to inflate themselves again.
Jive Software has filed an S-1 with the SEC indicating that they plan to go public to raise $100 million in the offering. Jive Software provides a Facebook-like social network for enterprises for social collaboration purposes within a company. Features of their software include blogging, discussions, polls, etc.
Earlier this week, Sprint announced that they will be launching the BlackBerry Curve 9350 smartphone which has the candy bar design, GPS, WiFi, 5 megapixel camera, and BlackBerry 7 operating system. The 9350 will be available on Sprint on September 9th for $79.99 with a two year contract. Sprint’s business customers may be able to buy the phone for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Tinypay.me is an e-commerce platform that launched at the 2010 Le Web conference. The company has recently raised $1 million from Aksoy Internet Ventures. Tinypay.me plans on relocating from the Netherlands to San Francisco.
