Samsung Aiming To Block iPhone 4S Sales In 10 Countries Including Australia and Japan

Samsung Electronics has said that they wanted to stop the sale of the iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia. This appears to be payback because Apple successfully prevented Samsung from selling tablets in Australia. Samsung filed preliminary injunctions in the Tokyo District Court and in the New South Wales Registry.

Samsung is also seeking a sales ban of the iPhone 4S in France and Italy. A court in the Netherlands rejected Samsung’s call for a ban on Apple’s products there. “We are actively responding in (the legal battle) with Apple,” stated Samsung spokesman James Chung.

Samsung’s action here appears to try and convince Apple to make a settlement rather than battle it out in court. I’m sure that if Apple allowed Samsung to sell the Samsung galaxy smartphones and tablets in Australia, then Samsung would drop their pursuit of having Apple’s iPhone 4S banned in these 10 countries.

This past Sunday Samsung COO and President Lee Jae-yong had left Seoul to attend Steve Jobs’ memorial service. “I will have a chance to meet Cook, but I’m not going there for business purposes. I’m going to pay tribute to Steve Jobs, and I don’t know what I will talk about with Cook,” said Lee. “Apple is one of Samsung’s most important clients, and we have developed a solid partnership. But that’s a separate matter from the legal disputes between the two companies in areas where they compete.”
