When the former United States Vice President Al Gore took the stage at the AsiaD conference, he gave his opinion on Steve Jobs. As an Apple board member, Gore was able to spend a lot of time with Jobs. “There’s no one like Steve,” said Gore. “He’s the kind of guy that comes along once every 250 years. He was totally unique. So obviously his death is a terrible loss for the entire world. And we’ll all miss him. But his legacy lives on.”

Daily deals service Groupon has reported their Q3 results. “Gross billings” growth was strong and rose 24% sequentially to around $1.2 billion for the quarter. Revenue grew 9% sequentially to nearly $1.2 billion for the quarter. Cumulative customers continued to grow rapidly and hit 29.5 million. Free cash flow increased to $60 million for the quarter. Groupon broke even this quarter.

However friending, following, and shared link features will be removed from Google Reader. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) expects the production costs of handsets that uses Windows Phone 7 software to drop by over half next year. Qualcomm Inc. will allow phones that run on the Windows Phone 7 operating system to be produced for under $200. This is a substantial drop from the $400 manufacturing cost from when the mobile operating system was introduced last year. This announcement was made by Windows Phone head Andy Lees. Google SVP of Social Vic Gundotra took the stage at the Web 2.0 Summit and announced several upcoming Google+ features and milestones. Gundotra said that over 3.4 billion photos have been shared on Google+ in the last 100 days. One of the reasons why tons of photos were added to Google+ at a fast pace is because they can be uploaded to Google+ directly from Android phones.

Walter Isaacson, the author of the Steve Jobs biography, will be interviewed this Sunday on “60 Minutes.” The interview will actually be aired on October 23rd, one night before Isaacson’s book, “Steve Jobs: A Biography,” is released. Jobs was usually a private man, but he allowed Isaacson to follow him around and put together the biography. Jobs said “nothing is off limits” when it came to chronicling his life to Isaacson.

Whiting, Indiana based coupon website company CouponCabin.com has raised $54 million in their first round of funding. This round of funding was led by JMI Equity. CouponCabin revealed that the funding will go towards growing their consumer audience and enhance their relationships with merchants. Some of the coupons that they have on their website today includes Dell, Target.com, Best Buy, and RadioShack. The website has exclusive deals with Just My Size, BuyCostumes, and Think Geek. CouponCabin.com works with 3,500 stores across the nation and has generated $500 million in online retail sales for their merchants since 2003. They have saved consumers over $300 million since 2003.
