Apple Retail Head Ron Johnson Departs Without A Replacement

Ron Johnson, the retail head at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), has officially left the company without a named successor. Ron Johnson is becoming the CEO and president of JC Penney. Apple removed Johnson’s named from the company’s list of executive profiles. Johnson has worked at Apple for 11 years with his latest position being the SVP of Retail.

Before joining Apple, Johnson worked as a key merchandising executive at Target Corporation for 15 years. Johnson is best known for pioneering the world renowned Genius Bar concept. Jobs was personally against this idea initially, but Johnson persuaded him into it. Currently Apple does not have a head of retail operations. The company is hoping to find someone with international retail experience.

In the company’s quarterly earnings conference call last month, Apple announced that they are planning to open 40 new retail stores in the current quarter with about three-quarters of them being outside of the United States.
