Angry Birds Sees 500 Million Downloads

Rovio’s Angry Birds has reached a major milestone. The company has hit 500 million downloads in under 2 years since the game launched. Angry Birds is a mobile game where players uses a slingshot to throw birds at pigs that stole their eggs. Angry Birds has stayed at the top of the charts since they launched for the Apple iPhone on December 11, 2009.

Rovio said that 44 billion stars were collected at 100 million downloads. When the game hit 210 million downloads, about 200,000 years of Angry Birds has been played thus far. Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio said that 500 million downloads is more than any other mobile game ever reached. Rovio is aiming to hit 1 billion fans.

“This is a fantastic landmark achievement for us, and we’re extremely delighted to see such an incredible amount of people enjoying our games,” stated Rovio CEO Mikael Hed. “We remain committed to creating more fun experiences and bringing exceptional quality to Angry Birds Fans everywhere.”
