Barnes & Noble Officially Announces Nook Tablet, Available Nov. 17 For $249

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) has officially announced the details about the Nook Tablet today. The Nook Tablet was made to replace the Nook Color. The Nook Tablet has an “HD viewing experience” and it has a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The Tablet weighs under a pound and the display is sourced from LG. It has an IPS unit with a 180-degree viewing angle. It can play up to 9 hours of 1080p video on a single charge.

The Nook Tablet has Netflix and Hulu Plus pre-loaded. Netflix will be deeply integrated into the Tablet through a customized application. The Tablet has 16GB of storage and can be expanded to 32GB through an SD card. You can also store content through the Nook Cloud service. Pre-orders are starting today and the device is expected to start arriving by about November 17th. The price is $249 and it will be available at retailers including Best Buy, Target, Walmart, OfficeMax, Staples, RadioShack, etc.

The Nook Tablet has double the internal storage and the RAM compared to the Amazon Kindle Fire. However Barnes & Noble does not have the advantage that Amazon.com has. Amazon.com is one of the most visited websites in the world and I bet that the Kindle Fire will have prime real estate advertising on Amazon’s website.
