Google Buys Automatic Friend Sorter App Company Katango

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired Katango, a small start-up company that has developed an iPhone app which makes it easier to selectively share with various groups of friends on Facebook. The Katango team will be hired into the Google Plus team.

Katango started to struggle after Facebook launched Smart Lists, a feature that automates the process of separating friends into lists like co-workers, family, etc. It is likely that Katango’s team will focus on Google+ Circles.

“We were impressed by the Katango team’s innovative approach to making your social circles smarter, and we think they’ll be a great addition to the Google+ team,” stated a Google spokesperson.
