Facebook Hit With Maliciously Coordinated Pornography and Violent Image Spam Attack

Facebook has reported today that they have been hit with a “coordinated spam attack” which led to the posting of pornographic and violent images on the news feeds of many users. The spam attack started a couple of days ago and many people have been complaining about the images on Twitter and Facebook since.
A lot of Facebook users were tricked into pasting and executing malicious javascript in their browser URL bars. Facebook is working on fixing the browser vulnerability by shutting down Facebook pages and accounts spreading the virus.
“We’ve put in place backend measures to reduce the rate of these attacks and will continue to iterate on our defenses to find new ways to protect people,” stated a Facebook spokesman.
