Yelp is a local business review website that has filed for a $100 million IPO. Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Jefferies are working as the lead underwriters. However the San Francisco based company has not selected an exchange to be traded on. Yelp is using multiple classes of shares for the public offering.

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has added former Wal-Mart chief financial officer Thomas Schoewe to their board of directors. Now GM has 12 board members and 10 of them are not company employees. GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said that Schoewe has business planning and financial expertise along with over 35 years of experience in leading consumer-oriented companies. Schoewe was responsible for Wal-Mart’s accounting and finance departments between 2000 and 2010. Before that he was the CFO for Black & Decker. Schoewe also serves on the board of directors at KKR Management, Northrop Grumman Corp. and PulteGroup Inc.

Facebook is now allowing users to tag photos before they are finished uploading. You will now be able to see the progress of each photo being uploaded in real-time and when each individual photo is complete, you can tag them immediately. The new photo uploading feature also allows you to add caption and location details of photos before it is done being uploaded.

Simon Cowell is best known for being a judge on the show American Idol and is a current judge for The Ex-Factor.  He joined Twitter yesterday and now has over 250,000 followers.  This year, the Ex-Factor will be the first show to allow viewers to vote through Twitter’s direct messaging system. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) subsidiary Skype has updated their applications for Windows and OS X so that you can now make Facebook-to-Facebook video calls. You can do this by linking your Skype and Facebook accounts. When you link Skype and Facebook, your Skype friends list is automatically updated with your Facebook friends list. You will be able to share screens with your chat partners too. Check out the demo video below:

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Samsung Electronics has announced that the Surface table called the SUR40 is now available for pre-order in over 23 countries. The SUR40 is slimmer than the original Microsoft Surface. The SUR40 has an Athlon X2 processor and a 40-inch multi-touch display.

During the holiday season, the Salvation Army usually rings bells and collects donations in front of restaurants and grocery stores. One of the problems I have is that I always use my credit card and almost never have spare change or cash. The Salvation Army is solving that problem for me by accepting credit cards by using Square credit card readers.
