Apple May Open A New Data Center In Oregon
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is currently deciding whether to open a new data center in Prineville, Oregon. This new data center would complement their data center in Maiden, North Carolina. Apple has an option to buy 160 acres of land for the data center in Prineville. Apple has until the end of the month to exercise the option or allow it to expire. Apple’s data center would be a quarter mile south of the Facebook data center.
It is currently unknown whether there is adequate electricity transmission in Prineville. Apple’s data center project is code-named “Maverick.” Initially it would start with a 31-megawatt data center with plenty of land for future expansion.
Apple has been actively working hard on expanding their data centers to handle iCloud, music, and video streaming services. Apple already invested $1 billion in the North Carolina center. Apple also has a smaller data center in Newark, California.@amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
