Flipboard Launches An iPhone App

Flipboard is an app that was named the Apple iPad App of the year and one of TIME’s Top 50 Innovations. Now the app is available on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Flipboard automatically creates a personalized magazine out of content that is being shared with you including Instagram photos, Facebook updates, Tumblr posts, and content from your favorite publications.

For the iPhone version of the app, Flipboard launched a feature called Cover Stories. Cover Stories is the starting point for finding content. It is a section that learns from a reader’s interaction with the content and is used for quickly finding interesting news and updates for that specific reader. The ability to login using a cloud-based account was also created for iPhone users.

Flipboard is entering the iPhone customized news reader marketing later than some rivals. Flipboard is now competing against products like Livestand by Yahoo! and Editions by AOL. Flipboard has raised $60.5 million in funding thus far. Their latest round of funding was $50 million at a valuation of $200 million. Flipboard for iPad has been downloaded about 4 million times and customers make about 650 million flips per month.
