Amazon Kindle Fire Being Returned For No External Volume, No Privacy, and Balky Touchscreen
The Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle Fire has been highly criticized despite all of the sales that it has been getting. The primary complaints are that the device does not have external volume control, the off switch is easy to hit on accident, websites take a long time to load, there is no privacy on the device, and the touchscreen is balky.
Usability expert Jakob Nielsen described his experience when using the Kindle Fire as disappointingly poor. “I feel the Fire is going to be a failure,” stated Nielsen. “I can’t recommend buying it.” However Amazon believes that the Kindle line of devices is critical for their future and they are willing to lose money on the sale of each device.
Amazon.com said that the Kindle Fire is the most successful product that they have ever introduced. However Amazon.com has not specified how many Fires it has sold. Amazon is continuing to build Kindle Fires by the millions to meet the demand.
“In less than two weeks, we’re rolling out an over-the-air update to Kindle Fire,” stated Amazon.com spokesman Drew Herdener. Amazon will be improving the performance and multitouch navigation throughout the next few months.
The Kindle Fire currently has about 4,500 reviews and those people have written that this device does not do as well as the original Kindle. About one third of these reviews are mixed or negative with three stars or less.
