Two Former RIM Executives Go On Drunken Rampage Aboard Air Canada

A couple of executives at Research In Motion Limited (TSE:RIM) went on a rampage on an Air Canada flight. George Campbell and Paul Alexander Wilson chewed through plastic restraints placed on them and they kept hunting for liquor on the flight. This forced the pilot to make an unscheduled landing. The two executives were also fined $72,000. The two were fired from RIM and was placed on parole for 12 months.

The two were very intoxicated before even getting on the flight from Toronto to Beijing. The two threatened fellow passengers and one of them said he would “off people when they left the plane.” Another executive laid on his stomach in the aisle and started kicking the floor.

The cabin crew managed to secure Campbell and Wilson in plastic handcuffs and tape, but the two gnawed through the restraints and kept looking for more alcohol. Flight attendants and a couple of passengers held the two executives in place for almost an hour and a half until the plane was diverted to Vancouver. Diverting the plane cost Air Canada close to $200,000. One flight attendant was assaulted and another was threatened.
