Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) SVP of Mobile Andy Rubin has announced that “there are now over 700,000 Android devices activated every day.” They count each device only once and they do not count re-sold devices. An activation means that you go into a store, buy the device, and put it on the network. To put that number into further perspective, it means that about 5 million Android devices are being activated per week, 21 million per month, and about 250 million per year. [9to5Google]

Looks like Amazon.com was not the only interested buyer in RIM. Microsoft and Nokia “flirted with the idea” of teaming up and buying RIM as well. The idea did not get any further than casual talks between senior executives at both companies. It may have even been a joke according to sources with the Wall Street Journal. I would not put it past Microsoft to considering how much they are investing in Windows Phone to gain traction. [WSJ]
Yesterday I wrote about how Apple won a minor victory over HTC over patents. The ITC said that HTC will not be able to import certain smartphone models to the U.S. starting in April 2012. However HTC said that they will be able to work around the patent as it is a simple user interface fix. The animators at NMA.tv put together this video to highlight the incident. Watch how the animated Steve Jobs uses a light saber in the video.
Looks like Mozilla has nothing to worry about after all… at least for now. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has signed a significant and mutually beneficial revenue agreement with Mozilla. Google will remain the default search engine for Mozilla Firefox for at least another 3 years.
Research In Motion Limited (TSE:RIM) has turned down take-over offers in the past, but one of the most interesting was from Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). RIM knows that they have been having problems with maintaining a solid market share, but they prefer to get better as an independent. This past summer, Amazon.com hired an investment bank to review a potential merger with RIM. A formal offer was never made.
A 16 year old and his dad in Meridian, Idaho put together a house with Christmas lights, which is synced with some dubstep music. There are 35,000 LED lights and 64 Light O Rama channels. The song that the Christmas lights are set to is called “First of the Year (Equinox)” by Skrillex.
On December 15th, Allan McLeod drank a half a bottle of whiskey and then he recited a classic Christmas poem. As he tells the poem in an intoxicated state, the video cuts to an enactment of the poem starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, and Jim Carrey. Gosling is the main character, Mendes is his wife, and Jim Carrey plays Santa Claus. Warning: Don’t watch this if you are offended by inappropriate language.
