Next month Apple is rumored to be launching two different types of the new iPad. DigiTimes reports that Apple is likely to introduce the next-generation at Macworld, but this seems unlikely since Apple withdrew from the trade show in 2009. Instead Apple will probably host a special event sometime around January 26, 2012. According to supply chain sources, one iPad 3 is expected to have a 7.85-inch display and the other is expected to have a 9.7-inch display. Both will have Retina Display and 8-megapixel cameras. The battery life on the new iPad is expected to be longer than the 10-hours that the iPad 2 has. [DigiTimes]
Above is a video of a mom playing a prank on her 6 year old twins. Twins Mya is a Chicago White Sox fan and Izaiah is a Chicago Cubs fan. Mya was given a Cubs-themed gift as part of the prank and burst into tears. I’m sure eventually the gifts were switched and Mya got her White Sox gift while and Izaiah was given his Cubs present. This video has hit almost 900,000 views in about 2 days.
Viacom has been ordered to pay Rock Band creators Harmonix Music Systems $383 million. This is a bit over half of the money that is being sought by former shareholders in Harmonix. Last year, former Harmonix CEO/co-founder Alex Rigopulos and co-founder Eran Egozy sued Viacom over unpaid bonuses. The bonuses are based on Rock Band sales goals that were met. In 2007, most of the payments were made but they stopped coming in 2008. According to arbitration accountants, Harmonix shareholders are owed $383 million as part of the 2006 acquisition. [Kotaku]
Looks like it is time for you to set up auto-pay for your Verizon Wireless account because the company is going to start charging consumers a $2 fee when paying by phone or online for your monthly bill. Some of the ways to avoid the fee is by electronic check online, electronic check via call-in, enrollment in autopay using a debit card/credit card/electronic check, gift card or rebate card, Verizon OneBill enrollment, paper check, and paying the bill inside Verizon retail stores. Two dollars is not a big fee, but when you extrapolate that fee across a year, it adds up to $24 which could buy you three meals at Chipotle. [Droid-Life]
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission pressed Groupon CEO Andrew Mason last month amidst the company IPO about the Mason Memo that was leaked. The controversy around the memo is that there is supposed to be a “quiet period” in the press before a company has a public offering. In the memo, Mason laid out some of the financial metrics and trends to explain why Groupon is doing well despite all the bad press. In the memo, Mason said that he was “excited” about the company’s prospects and this could be considered as a way to pump the IPO.
“We regret that the error was made, but no one’s security has been compromised,” stated New York Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy. The e-mail that was sent out around 1:15PM said “Important information regarding your subscription” as the subject line. The company offered a special home delivery rate for subscribers that recently cancelled.
