The Italy anti-trust authority has filed a 900,000 Euro ($1.2 million) fine against Apple Inc. for misleading consumers on assistance services and guarantees on their products. Former Windows Phone general manager Charlie Kindel started a debate in the blogosphere today about why Windows has not grown as fast as Google Android. The primary argument that Kindel makes is that Google makes too many concessions with carriers and device manufacturers at the expense of end-users while Microsoft has a draconian approach with their hardware partners. Since the device manufacturers control the cost and strategy of marketing the devices, they have more of an incentive to promote Android phones. In my opinion, Kindel is right in some ways and wrong in some ways. Below is what Kindel wrote on his blog and I wrote my opinion about it below that:
GoDaddy.com has been at the forefront of controversy when they showed their support for the Stop Online Copyright Act (SOPA), but changed their mind after a call-to-action campaign launched from social news website Reddit.com. Users on Reddit asked the community to transfer domain names from GoDaddy.com to other domain name host companies on December 29th. GoDaddy started to panic and tried to convince their customers to stay by retracting their public support of SOPA and actually calling customers to convince them in staying. However Namecheap.com said that GoDaddy may have done something illegal to maintain their customers.

Google and Mozilla have renewed their search partnership. Google will end up paying Mozilla about $300 million per year to be the default search engine for the Firefox web browser. This seems odd because Google’s own web browser, Google Chrome, is growing at a rapid pace. CrunchFund partner, MG Siegler, wrote a blog post speculating that the reason why Google is funding a competitor is because of antitrust issues. However, Chrome engineer Peter Kasting said that “Google is funding a partner.”
