Microsoft Unveils Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Today Microsoft has officially announced the consumer preview of Windows 8. Microsoft has also released Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 5. You can find the OS preview at preview.windows.com. Microsoft had showcased Windows 8 preview in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress where Microsoft is heavily marketing the Windows Phone platform. “Our goal with Windows 8 is to deliver PCs without compromise,” stated Windows head Steven Sinofsky when he took the stage at MWC.

Alleged Ohio Chardon High School Shooter TJ Lane Left Cryptic Facebook Status In December

Thomas “T.J.” Lane is the 17-year old suspect of killing three high school students and wounding 3 others in a shooting early this week in Ohio. He was described as a loner by students and his lawyer. TJ Lane was expected to be arraigned yesterday after the shooting at Chardon High. He came from a violent family too.

Motorola Buys $1.17 Billion Of Stock Back From Carl Icahn

Motorola Solutions Inc. split in two about a year ago after Carl Icahn pressured the company. Motorola bought $1.17 billion of its stock from Icahn and said that his representative on the board is stepping down. The repurchase represents about 7% of shares outstanding. It is part of a $3 billion buyback program said Motorola Solutions. Icahn Enterprises G.P. Inc. director Vincent J. Intrieri has resigned from the board.

Poppin Raises $6 Million In Series A

Poppin is an office supplies company that has raised $6 million in Series A from Shasta Ventures, First Round Capital, and several angel investors. Poppin makes office supplies in bright colors. Poppin will be expanding into furniture after this round of funding.

The New York Times Launches Tumblr Blog With Old Photos

The New York Times has launched a new Tumblr blog that is dedicated to old photos. The Tumblr blog is called The Lively Morgue and it launched this past Monday. The photos are in black and white. The blog is called The Lively Morgue because the images are being grabbed from the physical photo “morgue” where millions of pictures are stored in filing cabinets and manila folders.

“Joustin’ Beaver” App Developer Suing Justin Bieber Back

Android app developer company RC3 was sued by Justin Bieber, but they are suing him back. The company has preemptively filed a lawsuit against Justin Bieber and claims the rights to distribute their game called Joustin’ Beaver regardless of Justin Bieber’s trademark and publicity rights claims. RC3 was sued by Bieber two weeks ago after his attorneys sent the company a cease-and-desist letter that threatened litigation if the app wasn’t terminated.

Groupon Buys Travel Startup Company Uptake

Groupon has acquired the travel startup company Uptake. The acquisition was believed to be between $10 and $20 million. Uptake allows users to plan their vacations. Uptake has travel-related content and recommendations based on the social graph.

Google Giving Away $1 Million For Hackers To Find Flaws In Chrome

Google is passionate about how secure their web browser Google Chrome is. The search engine company is also paying a reward to keep their browser secure. Google told attendees at the CanSecWest security conference in Vancouver that starting next month they will offer $1 million in cash and Chromebooks in exchange for finding some flaws.
