Google May Be Creating A 7-Inch Tablet

Google is believed to be building a 7-inch tablet according to an analyst with DisplaySearch named Richard Shim. The Google-branded tablet is expected to have a 1280×800 resolution and the initial production run is between 1.5 to 2 million units. The Amazon Kindle Fire has a 7-inch display and a 1024×600 resolution. This report complements a similar Asia-based report in January that said the Google tablet will run on Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” and be priced around $199. “I don’t know how they plan on marketing it. If it’s going to be a premium device, or if it’s going to be a Kindle Fire type competitor,” added Shim. When Google completes the acquisition of Motorola, they will gain ownership of the Motorola Xoom, Xyboard, and Xyboard tablets. [CNET]
