Start Getting Used To Saying “Google Play” Instead Of “Android Market”

The Google Android Market has been changing a lot over the last year. The standalone Android Market started turning into a place to buy apps, e-books, music, movies, etc. Now Google is starting to believe that the “Android Market” name was getting to be too restrictive. This is why Google is now ending the name Google Android Market and will now be called Google Play instead.

Google Engineering Director Chris Yerga said that the company was thinking about changing the name for a long time. Google Play has been revamped drastically to emphasize the digital media that Google offers to their users. Google’s Books, Music, and Video services will be subsections of Google Play.

The Google Play experience will vary depending on where you are located. “In the U.S., music, movies, books and Android apps are available in Google Play. In Canada and the U.K., we’ll offer movies, books and Android apps; in Australia, books and apps; and in Japan, movies and apps. Everywhere else, Google Play will be the new home for Android apps,” said Google on their company blog.
