Apple Joins The OpenStreetMap Foundation

Yesterday Apple had launched iPhoto for the iPad and iPhone. The company also recently switched to OpenStreetMap. Up until now, the desktop version of iPhoto and all of Apple’s iOS apps have been using Google Maps. However iPhoto for iOS uses Apple’s own map tiles made from OpenStreetMap data. The data that Apple is using is from April 2010. The data is currently missing the necessary credit to OpenStreetMap’s contributors right now, but the organizations plans on working with Apple to get it on there. [OpenStreetMap Foundation Blog]
