Instagram and Hipstamatic Partnering On Photo-Sharing Service

Instagram has hit 27 million users after tripling their user base in the last 6 months and now they are partnering with another major photo-sharing service called Hipstamatic. Soon when you take a photo with Hipstamatic, you will be able to port them directly to your Instagram social network.

This is the first time that Instagram has opened up their platform API to third parties. “When we launched, it was all about Facebook and Flickr and Twitter, and now we’re seeing a huge shift in our user base toward Instagram,” stated Hipstamatic cofounder and CEO Lucas Buick in an interview with Fast Company. “We’ve never been a social networking company, but we clearly benefit from social networks. So this will be the first app outside of Instagram that lets you into their network. That’s pretty cool for us.”

Users will also be able to auto-tag the photo with the camera, flash, and film used from Hipstamatic. If the photo was taken with Hipstamatic, Instagram will attribute the photo by saying “Taken with Hipstamatic.” Hipstamatic currently costs $1.99 and they sell digital camera upgrades like lenses, films, and flashes within the app. Hipstamatic has 4 million users that upload 48 million photos per month.
