Apple Says Their Nano-SIM Standard Will Be Royalty-Free If ETSI Approves

Currently there are two rival nano-SIM designs being developed. There is only room to become an industry standard. Nokia, Motorola, RIM and Apple are all working on their own designs. Apple sent a letter to the European Telecoms Standards Institute (ETSI) to say that they are ready to license their nano-SIM design royalty-free as long as it becomes the new standard and if other nano-SIM patent holders are ready to reciprocate the same. This shows that Apple is not interested in profiting from this format. However Nokia has indicated that they prefer their own design. [FOSS Patents]
