Amazon.com is testing out a new service for allowing tablet users to make in-app purchases. This type of purchase is already popular on Google Android and Apple iOS. Amazon.com’s service would be applicable to individual items within apps and subscriptions. Skimble Inc., the developer of physical fitness apps are a part of Amazon.com’s in-app purchase pilot. The in-app purchase market is hot right now and is expected to generate $5.6 billion in 2015 revenues, which is up from $970 million in the last year.
A majority of Skimble’s revenues come from subscriptions and in-app purchases like workout regimens. Amazon.com will be charging 30% commision to clients that use in-app purchase services, which is the same amount charged to developers for app sales. Currently Amazon has 1,400 apps in their mobile application store.
