Google Android Device Manufacturers Not Happy With Restrictions

Manufacturers are believed to be tired of building Android devices that do not stand out from their competition. There are rules that Google imposes on hardware manufacturers about how Android can be implemented in order to qualify as being “compatible.” Some products like the Amazon Kindle Fire have been successful by using Android, but device manufacturers are itching to produce their own operating systems to be more in control.

“I’m spending a lot of time with companies forking Android,” stated Skyhook Wireless CEO Ted Morgan. “Nobody wants to just be a manufacturer for Google. You see that with what Amazon has done, where they made it their own, and you also see a whole host of manufacturers taking Android down their own path.”

Morgan said that his company will be part of a major new phone device that is to be released at the end of the year, which will be based on Android but will not be controlled by Google.
