Nokia Lumia 900 Doing Pretty Good On Amazon Despite Opening Day Mishap

The fact that the Nokia Lumia 900 was released on Easter, a day where most phone retail stores are closed seems to be poorly planned. The New York Times wrote that 39 AT&T stores within proximity of Times Square in Manhattan were either closed for Easter Sunday or did not have the phone in stock.

The automated message at the AT&T stores also had an automated message that said “Visit our store to see the exciting iPhone 4S and how only AT&T’s network lets your iPhone 4S download three times faster.”

In Times Square, Nokia sponsored an event featuring a performance by Nicki Minaj. In Times Square, Nokia had roped off an area for the concert and they had promotional messages on screens for the show. They served cocktails like the “Lumia Light” and “Beautifully Different.” There was only one table that had Lumia 900 phones on display, but it was ignored by many of the people there.

When a spokesperson was asked why they picked Easter, they did not have a specific answer. Instead AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said “The Lumia has received tremendous product reviews and we have been taking pre-orders online and in our stores all week. We are already off to the races.”

The good news for Nokia, Microsoft, and AT&T is that the Lumia 900 is doing pretty well in terms of online orders. It is ranked #5 as the best-selling cellphones with service plans on Amazon.com.
